Time Management - 16h Principal
Best goals are achievable in a small leap
My mind is always filled with incessant buzz of thoughts, urging me to fit more self-promotion items beyond working into my schedule, while all of them requires daily execution and accumulation:
Contribute to research / side projects beyond daily work to build up specialized skills
Networking in the Venture Capital realm of Silicon Valley to prepare myself when opportunities come
Keep fit and healthy and workout everyday
This blog shows how I manage my time to make them achievable goals.
Let’s do some math
Subtracting 7-8 hours of sleep and 0-1 hours of zoning out, one can have a maximum of 16 hours of mindful time every day. This number varies for different people, we’ll use this number as an examlpe Goals varies for different people, but there’s some basic categorizations:
Career, Health, Hobby, Relationships
You might add Beauty, Volunteering, Social Branding, etc.
Logic Map
You CERTAINLY have this map in your mind but a visual representation will help (most of us) understand why we value one more than the other:
Weigh Them
How much you value them in your life? Slice your 16h (or you X
hours) as a pie:
Math Again
You know see how many hours you can put in daily life:
Career = 16h * 65% = 10.4h ~= 8h work + 2.5h side project / networking
Health = 16h * 15% = 2.4h ~= 1.5h workout + 1h cook a healthy meal
Hobby = 16h * 10% = 1.6h/day = 8h/week = 3*2h dance class + commute time per week
Relationships = 16h * 5% ~= 50min with significant ones
Beauty = 16h * 5% ~= 50min shower & self care routines
Let’s be more practical
You know you might get lost in news browsing / ticktock browsing / online surfing …
You know some of the items require more time …
That’s why this chart exists. It will tell you what to do when your mind wanders, because:
YOU HAVE ENOUGH TIME, YOU JUST DID THE MATH
Go ahead and set your short-term goal, and there’s no reason why you’re not confident in achieving them.
